Most people who suffer from stage fright fear seeing hundreds of eyes staring back at them, but for freshman, Josephine “Jojo” Brown, that is not the case. Unlike her peers, Jojo doesn’t see the eyes starring back at her, because she is blind; however, she does not let that stop her from living out her dream of being a performer. In order to win, all she believes anyone needs to do is “Try hard and do your best.”
In order to be in the competition to begin with, students must first audition in front of the choir director, Mr. Beasley. Jojo, being an avid Taylor Swift fan, decided to sing “Christmas” for her audition song, and it was the key that opened the door for her into the competition. After auditions, comes the grueling hours of practices, followed by their competitive performances. Although, Jojo claims that everyone in the competition look out for each other, “They support you. Even if you mess up, they are there for you.” Looking into the future, with a possible victory looming, Jojo remained modest and said, “Everyone has an equal chance at winning. If they put their minds to it, they can do anything!” Which is something Jojo herself does everyday; proves that with perseverance and determination, nothing can stand in the way of a person's dreams.
