On thursday of last week, The Weeknd’s most recent album, Starboy hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 music chart. It is followed by the soundtrack from the movie Moana and 24K Magic by Bruno Mars. This album made it’s debut in late 2016 and is The Weeknd’s second number one album. (His album from last year entitled Beauty Behind the Madness was his first number one album.) According to Billboard Magazine, Starboy has sold 69,000 equivalent album units, 18,000 of which were from traditional album sales. Paste Magazine has also reported that this album is the third largest debut of 2016 behind Lemonade by Beyoncé and Drake’s album Views at number one. This album hasn’t just sold incredibly well, but it has also broken the record for the most streamed song in a single day on Spotify. Although his album has had a lot of success, his song “Starboy”, which is a collaboration with the french music duo Daft Punk, featured on the album by the same name has dropped to number four on the Billboard hot 100 list. His other collaboration with Daft Punk entitled “I feel it Coming” is at 25 on this list and his solo “Party Monster” is at 49. Number one on this list is “Bad and Boujee” by Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert. “I think that those placements are good for those songs.” says sophomore Allaena James, a fan of The Weeknd. Even though she thinks that “Starboy” deserves its number four ranking, she still likes this new album. “I think he deserved it on top. It was a good album.”
