“My goal is to make it as far as I can go” says Kyle Brockitt ‘18. He plans to push himself this season and make it as far as he can possibly go. So far he has gone 5:1. In fact, last Saturday, December 10th he placed 1st at the Sterling Heights Stallion Tournament for his weight class. Brockitt’s first loss was a turning point in his wrestling career. The defeat made him realize he needed to push harder to be better. With the single leg as his takedown and a go to pinning combination for the cradle, Brockitt plans to reach farther than high school with wrestling. Kyle Brockitt has been wrestling since 7th grade but to him it’s more than just a sport, “ to me wrestling is like a lifestyle. It's hard to explain but it builds me into something I want to be.” Growing up as troubled kid in wrestling he found himself. It motivates him to do better not only on the mat, but in school. Wrestling at Port Huron made him better, “It built me into a stronger person.” Brockitt is a prime Port Huron success story, making the best out of situations and pushing to be better.

Jenna Mix ‘17, Senior on the Port Huron High School varsity bowling team says that she loves to bowl and is very glad to be on the team. “I started bowling last year, my Junior year, I had been around some of my friends and that had wanted me to try out, it seemed interesting and lots of fun to me.”. She said that she had big goals for this season, also. Jenna had stated “My goals for this season are to bowl my new hit game and win as many games as I can. I have to try to do my absolute best.” Her highest game is 143 and her highest series is about 255. “When I bowl, I try to just stay relaxed and do my absolute best to stay focused on the game. Sometimes it is hard to stay focused, all of us girls just have so much fun, we’re like a small little family.” She had stated, “In my bowling bag I have my shoes, a pair of fuzzy socks, my towel, Ez slide, my bow and of course my ball.” People wanted to know how she felt about her coach, she had a very positive answer, “My coaches have a big impact on how I bowl and my attitude towards the game, I love coach Terri she is always in a good mood and treats us like family, just like we’re her own daughters.”. We were wondering how much of a commitment it is to be on the team and she had said, “To be on the team you have to keep your grades up, be at all of the practices(on time), have a good attitude to better yourself and the girls around you and participate in some of the volunteer/fundraisers that we put together to keep our team afloat.”
It’s finally here that time when football ends and hockey begins but there's more winter sports than just hockey. Kaley Wagner was 4 years old when she started gymnastics she decided to start gymnastics because she says “I was born into it and it’s very athletic and fun.”
The things she likes best about school gymnastics is that she gets to compete across all of michigan and the team has a lot of girls. Gymnastics takes a lot of skills and it could take a day or years just to get a certain skill down and perfect. Kaley believes her best skill is bars which is also her favorite event because “it takes a lot of your skills” she says. She thinks gymnastics is one of the hardest sports there is to do. |
